"Married my best friend at the Avery hotel on June 2nd! It's was amazing! Highly recommend! The staff was more than helpful and awesome! The most beautiful venue I've ever been to! day here on our wedding weekend. We were lucky to have found this place by just pure searching for unique wedding venues and when we saw this place... we knew it was special. This venue has beautiful charm and good bones. It just feels like you stepped back in time and we really enjoyed that. Karl and all the staff connected with Avery Hotel have been nothing but accommodating to us. "
Chris Kenyon: July, 2024
"My wife and I had our reception here last week and it was incredible. The staff (especially Karl) is incredibly responsive, helpful, always willing to right any wrongs, and provide as much privacy as possible. It was the perfect mix of accommodating without being overbearing. They have affordable rates so that you can rent the place for the weekend, letting you set up, party, and tear down at a reasonable pace. There is endless outdoor and indoor space, with plenty of lighting and electrical hookups outside. You may need to do some extra cleaning yourself in & out, but it's well worth it."
The Historic Avery Hotel is the oldest, continuously operated hotel in Calaveras County, it was built as a family home in 1851 by Joseph and Sarah Goodell of Maine. The Goodells later relocated to Stockton. In 1853 Peter and Nancy Avery, also of Maine, began operating it as a hotel. Famous guests have included Alfalfa of “Our Gang” fame and such western legions as Black Bart and Roy Rogers. Owners and guests have reliably reported that the benign spirits of a late 19th century sea captain and a locally revered school mistress still occasionally visit the hotel. Hazel Fischer, the school mistress lived in the hotel for 30 years until her death in 1967, and was responsible for forming the Avery School District. The hotel was purchased in 1922 by the Cotelli Family, who carried out extensive renovations. Since 1991 further restoration has taken place, and it continues to provide a gracious atmosphere for event and group lodging guests.
