I am currently writing my review while spending our last day here on our wedding weekend. We were lucky to have found this place by just pure searching for unique wedding venues and when we saw this place... we knew it was special. This venue has beautiful charm and good bones. It just feels like you stepped back in time and we really enjoyed that. Karl and all the staff connected with Avery Hotel have been nothing but accommodating to us.
They were always willing to listen to any questions we had and were always checking in along the way. The freedom of the venue really pulls you in because it offered that blank canvas of possibilities and that is what we wanted because I love a challenge and had a very clear image of how I wanted my wedding to look like. They have extra decorations for you to use, endless linens, all shapes/sizes of plates, cups and bowls. You do need to clean up after yourself but that's the easy part.
Now Karl, deserving of his own paragraph... he really takes care of you and checks up on you especially when it is week of. He was kind enough to let us come in earlier on check in day and greeted us as we pulled up ready to help in any way we needed. He gave us a quick tour and stepped away to let us have our special private weekend! We did have to text him a few times and was always quick to respond. Again, thank you Karl and staff for a beautiful and memorable venue.

My wife and I had our reception here last week and it was incredible. The staff (especially Karl) is incredibly responsive, helpful, always willing to right any wrongs, and provide as much privacy as possible. It was the perfect mix of accommodating without being overbearing. They have affordable rates so that you can rent the place for the weekend, letting you set up, party, and tear down at a reasonable pace. There is endless outdoor and indoor space, with plenty of lighting and electrical hookups outside. You may need to do some extra cleaning yourself in & out, but it's well worth it.
The neighborhood had no problems with us partying loudly until at least 1130, and our guests had the time of their lives. We can't wait for an excuse to rebook this venue.

My wife and I were married here in October 2022 and could not have been happier. Around 80 people and so many compliments on one of the best weddings they have ever been to, all thanks to the team at the amazing Avery Hotel. The place cannot be beat. Everything you need provided. Rooms on-site. Really the best week and weekend of my life. All that and for a price you cannot beat. Could not more highly recommend to anyone. Can easily accommodate weddings, reunions, and other large events and just as fun for smaller get together.

Beautiful family wedding at this venue. Stepping back in time is lovely. Helpful staff that don't intrude but are very ready to make things perfect. Large enough grounds but rustic and low key.

Amazing place, booked it for our wedding and enjoyed the experience all weekend, everyone who works there was super helpful and quick to action. Would gladly recommend for events/a get away :)

My husband and I were married at the historic Avery Hotel on 09.08.18 and it was absolutely perfect. From day one the Avery Hotel staff were incredibly responsive, helpful, and kind. The Avery Hotel is set in the majestic Stanislaus National forest. They had everything we needed and we loved that we were able to spend the whole weekend there. And the price is incredibly affordable! The hotel was the perfect venue for our special day and I would recommend it to any couple looking for a Northern California wedding venue.
The hotel and grounds are beautiful. The interior of the hotel is spacious and decorated lavishly. There is a super cool saloon style bar for enjoying beverages with friends and a commercial kitchen for preparing meals. There are bathrooms both downstairs and upstairs and the water pressure in the showers was great. All the rooms are unique and the beds were very comfortable. Our guests all loved exploring the space! The kitchen appliances, baths and showers were all in great shape and fully functional.
We were married on the stage which was recently stained and looked great, and the staff provided a lovely white backdrop for us to decorate. She also laid out a long white runner for our aisle. The hotel staff were incredibly accommodating, even collecting candlesticks and other decorative items for us to use. The pavilion outside is also beautiful and seated our 100 guests perfectly for dinner. The Avery hotel provided the tables & benches, as well as white linen tablecloths and napkins.
The property has tons of twinkle lights which are so pretty at night, and there are lots of tables and chairs around for relaxing. The hotel provided speakers both indoors and outdoors which made for some great dance parties. They also had 2 port-o-potty's available outside. We really didn't need to bring much as they had so many things covered!
Overall, our experience was wonderful. The staff, hotel, and amenities were amazing and made our wedding absolutely perfect. If you are looking for a unique weekend wedding venue, take a tour of the historic Avery Hotel - you'll fall in love.

Have you ever wanted to rent an entire hotel? Complete with a very private outdoor venue, a real bar (saloon?) and a fully equipped commercial kitchen...
We were looking for a safe and fun place for a family reunion. Somewhere I could actually bring all of our extended family.. (even those country ones you can't be seen in public with, lol). Found this amazing hotel online and can't say enough great things about it.
Karl, our host disappeared after showing us all the amenities. He lives nearby and showed up swiftly when I had trouble lighting a fire in the living room.
We had 6 kids that had their own suite area away from the adults. Thankfully there was wifi internet for them when they tired of playing outside.
We had such a stellar time there at the historical wild west Avery hotel with no one looking over our shoulders :)
The big trees nearby were awesome too. My skiing fam hit the mountains not far away. Plus an Italian restaurant, a live entertainment bar, and cute lil coffee shop all in walking distance. The town of Murphy's was super cool also.
I'm guessing they book up fast with the weddings and stuff. Don't hesitate!

This is my second time at the Avery Hotel, and my friends and I again had an amazing time! It is such a great spot for group lodging with so many fun activities on site and nearby - I recommend going to the lake for a day if it's warm out! 10/10 would recommend!

Family reunion for 19 people, all stayed on the property. A great venue that's close to Big Trees, Moaning Caverns Columbia and more. The staff were awesome.

The Avery Hotel was a great place for our extended family to congregate and visit. We enjoyed using the kitchen, the many inside spaces, as well as the wonderful backyard. The host was easy to deal with and accommodating!

This is a perfect spot for a friends / family reunion. We took advantage of the caterers the hotel staff recommended, for a few meals, and we also ate at good restaurants nearby for other meals. Murphys, a small town nearby, is very nice and has a beautiful playground by the river.
Steven Almer- April 2023
Best place to have a family gathering or wedding. Beautiful place and awesome caretakers.
Paul Costa- February 2023
Rented the event space for a friends weekend. Had everyone dress to gold rush theme and has an absolutely fantastic time. Perfect venue for such an event. Hope to be back.

What an absolute delight!! You are in for a real blast from the past treat. With custom style elegance, each room of this historic hotel stays true to its time period, all up in the peaceful and beautiful Sierras, The Avery Hotel is a must for your next adventure

The Avery Hotel is a quaint and historic property that is perfect for almost any kind of event, gathering, or vacation. We had an incredible time exploring the multitude of unique items on display throughout the house, enjoying the bar, playing pool, and lounging around on the grounds. The property was a perfect escape away from the hustle of the city. Our hosts were wonderful - they introduced us to the property and were quickly responsive when we had questions or issues. We highly recommend planning a stay at the Avery Hotel!

My family really enjoyed staying at this place. The bar and kitchen was a fantastic complement. The staff were awesome hosts. We had over 20 people in our group and they all loved it. The stay was unique and allowed for us to not only bond as a family, but enough space to have alone time when needed. The fire pit was great to roast marshmallows and tell stories. We will make this stay at your home our yearly tradition. My entire family loved everything about this trip.

This is a great place for the price to rent a small historic hotel, located about 50 mins from Bear Valley Ski Resort and about 5 mins from Arnold. It definitely feels like you are in a time capsule catapulted back to the early 1900s. The big draw was the centrally located pool table (medium sized but well maintained). There is a TV, fireplace, piano and plenty of seating in this central area. The kitchen is relatively updated with plenty of space to manage a large cookout. There is an outdoor barbecue pit also, located about 40’ in the back from the kitchen. Out in the back, there is a large covered pavilion, a separate outdoor log-seat type stage area, fire pit near the stage, and a decent sized grassy yard located right next to the hotel with plenty of seating areas. Just note that this is more of like a historic hotel, but is very well maintained and very clean. Upstairs where most bedrooms are has only one bathroom. All bedrooms have a small sink and heater which is very nice though. There is also a decent sized poker room upstairs with 2-beds located there too. We will definitely come back to this place.

We had family here for a wedding weekend. It was a wonderful weekend. The staff was fabulous, the manager was very attentive. It was a beautiful wedding weekend. I’ll be back!

This place has been a true discovery! Located in a beautiful area of the Sierra Nevada, the Avery Hotel is full of charm and character. The innkeeper was so nice and helpful I wish I had more stars to give her. Now I am hoping I can get another large group to rent it again!

We rented this hotel for a weekend retreat. Plenty of beds for everyone. The commercial kitchen is fully stocked and the dining room table comfortably seats 12-14 people. Having enough space allowed everyone to get what they needed from the weekend. The hotel comes with a resident cat but if allergic, the staff will take him out if you let her know. The hotel team was responsive and fixed issues when necessary. We recommend the hotel for large groups seeking comfortable accommodations.

This is a gorgeous property with amazing owners. The team helped us every step of the way. The house itself is gorgeous and has plenty of space for a large group. Couldn't recommend more staying here- it was actually our second time staying! It's also super close to Arnold/grocery store so it's very convenient, but you also still feel like you're secluded and can enjoy the nature.

5 years ago I walked through the Avery as our friend had just purchased this historic hotel. The transformation is beyond words. What Fred has done with this place is exquisite and very period decorated. The music stage and outdoor dining tent are very large and perfect for a wedding or an epic party. The hotel has the room for a very large gathering. You can belly up to a bar that some of the 1800's bandits threw back the drinks. Worth the drive by, but it's not a working hotel as it's exclusively for a private invite or event. You can become part of the social club if you want to be invited for a special private dining with a world renowned chef. Call Fred for how to become part of history and the historic Avery Hotel.
